Ventspils University of Applied Sciences

PhD in Language and Literature Studies , Ventspils

The joint doctoral program Languages and Literature Studies is designed as a modern interdisciplinary program comprising three sub-programs: Translation Studies, Linguistics, Literary and Cultural Studies. The three sub-programs will focus on the common specificity and the interdisciplinarity of the field, develop specialised scientific competences, and provide students with the opportunity to learn the basic elements of another specialisation.

The doctoral program develops scientific, academic and organisational competences. The basis of doctoral studies is research work: the development of a doctoral thesis, an original scientific study, as well as the publication of research results at international scientific conferences and in scientific journals, while academic courses according to the specialisation of each doctoral student deepen knowledge of current issues in contemporary linguistics, literary studies and translation studies.

The joint doctoral program Languages and Literature Studies will be implemented at Ventspils University of Applied Sciences (Inženieru 101, Ventspils) as part of the study direction Language and Culture Studies, Native Language Studies, and Language Programmes, Liepaja University (Lielā iela 14, Liepāja) as part of the study direction Language and Culture Studies, Native Language Studies, and Language Programmes, and at the Faculty of Humanities and Social Sciences of Daugavpils University (Vienības iela 13, Daugavpils) as part of the study direction Language and Culture Studies, Native Language Studies, and Language Programmes.
