Purpose of the study program

To train a professional specialist, who is able to to counsel and nurse healthy people and patients in families and community at different levels of personal health care: social care and nursing institutions, rehabilitation institutions, sanatoriums and at patient’s home (integral nursing) at all stages of the nursing process. Student should demonstrate critical thinking, social responsibility, ability to work in a team and independently,have a holistic approach and proceed science-based practice.

Outcomes of the study program

To understand and applythe national and international health policy provisions.

Being able to determine the limits of professional activity and responsibility, apply provisions of health legislation and professional ethics in nursing practice, and provide consultations within the limits of their professional competence.

To apply acquired knowledge of natural, biomedical, social and humanitarian sciences while assessing health status of a patient in family, community. To be able to make decisions in nursing practice.

Perform scientific nursing research, interpret, analyze, summarize and present results as well as apply them in solving nursing health problems.

Identify the nursing needs of a patient, family, and community, plan and apply methods of treatment.

Perform and evaluate nursing actions and procedures, provide arguments for decision-making in different professional situations.

Prepare patients for medical tests and therapeutic interventions.

Recognize life-threatening conditions, evaluate them and respond to them accordingly, provide emergency medical aid in the case of acute conditions and injuries.

Develop healthy lifestyle skills of patients, family, and community, organize and implement health education and counseling according to health education needs.

Ability to apply the principles of nursing practice.

Communicate and consult the patients and their families having health problems, work in a team with colleagues and other experts while implementing person oriented care.

Fluent presentation of information in written and spoken language, communicate efficiently in Lithuanian and foreign languages, accept the diversity of people and cross-cultural differences.

Critical evaluation of professional nursing practice, to be able to understand the importance of lifelong learning, make independent decisions and evaluate their impact on different nursing practice situations, use practical knowledge and take responsibility for the actions.

Ability to collect and systematize information related to patient care, use modern technology and information systems in nursing practice, handle confidential information properly at work and apply the protection of personal data, apply strategies of learning, pursue a nursing education and practice dissemination.

Career opportunities

Graduates will be able to work in various levels of personal health care facilities (dispensaries, polyclinics, nursing hospitals, sanatoriums, homes for the elderly, children and youth care homes, family care centers, general practitioners’ office, addiction centers and military service units), as well as in the integral nursing field. After receiving the diploma, students are be able to continue their studies at Vilnius University, Lithuanian University of Health Sciences, Klaipeda University, Lithuanian University of Educational Sciences or foreign higher education institutions. After completing additional studies or fulfilling other requirements set by the higher education institution, students may apply for the second cycle Master’s studies.
